The Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue leadership felt that a school should be established, that could meet both the need to provide a higher standard of lay education, but also provide a sound religious background for its pupils. This was at that time rarely if ever offered. Initially it was limited to nursery and kindergarten age groups and in the late fifites this was extended to become the Kerem Primary school.
