The inscription on the face reads “Hampstead Garden Suburb Free Church. This trowel was used in laying the Memorial Stones of the Church. On Thursday 16th March 1911 by Mrs S.A. Barnett. Rev. Dr RF Horton. Herbert Marnham Esq. Rev John Wilson and the Rev. J.H. Rushbrooke M.A. (Minister) And in laying the Memorial Stone of the Manse on Saturday 8th April1911 by Mrs Rushbrooke.”
The 9 children’s’ trowels are cast steel. They each bear a small inscription for the order of boys and girls to set their grey bricks above the stone laid by Dame Henrietta “God is larger than the Creeds”.
