LIEUTENANT STANLEY WILLIAM WOODLEY,

10th Squadron Royal Flying Corps.

Died 22 January 1917, aged 20

 

This young man was killed when his plane was in collision with another British plane in France. He was the only son of William Samuel and Rose Dora Woodley of ‘Woodview’, 121 Erskine Hill. His grave is in the Chocques Military Cemetery - another cemetery designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. His name appears on the memorial at St Jude’s and he is remembered on the Free Church war memorial.
