LANCE CORPORAL AUBREY DUNCAN BEARNE,

1st/28th Battalion London regiment (Artists’ Rifles)

Reported missing in Belgium 30th October 1917, aged 23

 

His captain dismissed the idea that he had been taken prisoner as we still held the ground. It is thought that a shell killed him. Aubrey Bearne was the son of Alfred and Mary Bearne of 11 Reynolds Close. He lies honoured in Poelcapelle British Cemetery in Belgium and is also commemorated on the Free Church memorial.
