  • Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the London Passenger Transport Board, 1933-40.
  • Advocate of good design; he was president of the Design and Industries Association, 1932-34 and the first
  • Chairman for the Council for Art and Industry set up by the board of Trade in 1934. 
  • Set branding style for London Transport in architecture, typography, furnishing and advertising for which he appointed the best contemporary architects, artists and designers.
