Overview for Kate Kelson Brown

Some acts of Census resistance were quite low key. For example, Kate Kelson Brown, 23 Reynolds Close, completed the form, but described herself as a suffragist, whilst her daughter Violet Brown who wrote on the form under disability “unenfranchised”. This seems to have been entered for all the females at the property but was later crossed through, apparently by the enumerator.

Kate Kelson Brown appears as a regular donor to WFL after the formation of the branch in HGS in late 1911. She was active in the branch and often hosted meetings at her house.
