The flood of July 2021

The Great Flood of 12th July, 2021

At about four in the afternoon the heavens opened and in the space of just a couple of hours more rain fell than in more than a month. Mutton Brook burst its banks and other streams overflowed causing extensive flooding across Hampstead Garden Suburb, especially in properties close to the brooks and streams.

The weather pattern was very similar to that which caused the extensive flooding in Hampstead and Gospel Oak in 1975.

We sincerely hope that this extreme weather event, which resulted in so much flooding and damage, will not be repeated for another forty-six years. However, we can see that the effects of global warming are causing more frequent extreme weather patterns.

This is a collection of videos, photographs and descriptions supplied by local residents.
