Video overlooking the service road at the back of Heathfielde

This video was taken by Geoffrey Behrman, looking out of the back of the Heathfielde block of flats. A dip in the service road became flooded by rain and the raging torrent of the Mutton Brook can be seen overflowing its banks to add to the water on the road. The water was about a foot deep and reached halfway up the wheels of the parked car.

At the back of Heathfielde there is a commercial storage area and a garage of classic cars. Everything became waterlogged. A lot of the commercial stock had to be thrown away, and the cars had to be towed away to be dried out. Not only were the cars, engines and electrics damaged by water but there was sewage contamination from overflowing drains.
