Rev Dr James Henry Rushbrooke was the first minister of the Free Church and much was achieved during his time in the suburb, including drafting the bye laws and constitution of the church. It is a tesitment to his skill and liberal mindedness that much of his original document still remains today. He left in 1920 to become European Commissioner for the Baptist World Alliance.

Also shown here is the poster for his recognition, held on December 15th 1910.
